Beijing with a tall grey haired old lady Pt3

The great wall of China
We chose a tour out to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, located in Huairou County 70km northeast of Beijing.

We chose Mutianyu after much research, as this was the section of the wall with a chair lift up and down or a toboggan ride down.  Mutianyu is also not as crowded as some of the other sections, such as Badaling.

I am so glad that we made the effort as it was a Bucket List item for both of us to say we walked along  the Great Wall of China
We walked the wall for around 2 hours or so, enjoying the views.

What we hadn't counted on was how steep the steps are.

This was far too hard for a lot of people, I was proud of mum for attempting it.
For the most part she sat on one of the steps looking at view.
Going up the steps was hard but coming down you felt like you were falling forward a lot.

If its a MUST DO thing for your elderly traveller, I would suggest booking a car and driver or private tour, to  Mutianyu section of the wall, take the cable car up, wander around, take cable car down, buy a souvenir from the myriad of stalls at the bottom. Take water, wear walking shoes, mum often uses a folding cane to help her balance on uneven surfaces too
